The Toledo Symphony will finish the season for two of its series next week.

 

 

 

Wolfgang Mozart's Quintet for Piano and Winds will be part of the Mozart and More finale at 7:30 p.m. April 4 in the Franciscan Theatre & Conference Center of Lourdes College, 4832 Convent Blvd. Sylvania. The work will feature pianist Valrie Kantorski, oboist Kimberly Bryden, clarinetist Georg Klaas, bassoonist Gabriel Bergeron-Langlois, and horn player Sandra Clark. Also on the program are Franz Schubert's Sixth Symphony in C Major, conducted by Chelsea Tipton II, and Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 77. Tickets are $29 and $33.

 

The Blade Chamber Series winds up with "Something Old, Something New" at 7 p.m. April 5 in the Toledo Club, 235 14th St. The "old" part of the program includes Erno Dohnanyi's Serenade for String Trio (1902); Johannes Brahms' Trio for Piano, Clarinet, and Cello (1891), and Rebecca Clarke's Sonata for Viola and Piano (1919). The new portion of the program is Mark Sforzini's Sextet for Woodwinds and Piano, which had its premiere in 2008. Tickets are $25 and $35.

Two productions of the ballet Cinderella are coming to area stages.

Ballet Theatre of Toledo presents Cinderella, choreographed by Artistic Director Nigel Burgoine, at 7 p.m. April 4 and 2 p.m. April 5 in the Maumee Performing Arts Center, 1147 Saco St., adjacent to Maumee High School. The Guild of Ballet Theatre of Toledo has scheduled a lecture on the ballet by Burgoine and demonstration by principal dancers Tricia Sundbeck and Jay Goodlett at noon April 2 in the BTT headquarters, 1124 Corporate Drive, Holland. In Monroe, Gail Choate-Pettit will direct the River Raisin Ballet Company in Cinderella at 7 p.m. April 4 and 2 p.m. April 5 in the River Raisin Centre for the Arts, 114 South Monroe St. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $8 for students. Information: 734-242-7722.

 

 

John Stainer's "The Crucifixion" will be presented at 3 p.m. April 5 in First Congregational Church, 2315 Collingwood Blvd. Shin-Ae Chun, music director of the church, will direct the church's Chancel Choir in a free concert, with tenor William Skoog and bass Sean Cooper, voice faculty members of Bowling Green State University, and organist Yoon-Mi Lim, a Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary faculty member, as the featured performers.

 

 

The Canterbury Choir at Trinity Episcopal Church, Adams and St. Clair streets, presents Heinrich Schutz's "St. Matthew Passion" at 7 p.m. April 5 to mark the start of Holy Week. The concert and meditative service are free.

 

 

Micheal Anders will conduct the University of Findlay's 70-voice Concert Chorale in "One World: the Choral Music of Mark Hayes" at 3 p.m. April 5 in Winebrenner Theological Seminary on the Findlay campus. A Texas composer and arranger, Hayes draws from gospel, jazz, pop, folk, and classical in his compositions. Bowling Green State University's college of musical arts has a busy performance schedule as it heads into its last full month of classes.

 

Rick Benjamin's Paragon Ragtime Orchestra will wrap up the university's Festival Series at 8 p.m. April 3 in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center. The program, "Scott Joplin & The Original Kings of Ragtime," features works by Joplin, John Philip Sousa, and Irving Berlin. The silent film The Weak-End Drivers will also be screened, accompanied by the orchestra. Tickets are $30, $25, and $18 in advance. Prices increase by $3 the day of the performance. The Ohio Flute Festival is scheduled April 3 and 4 with master classes and guest recitals by flute professors from Michigan State, Capital, and Ohio universities, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. Also in Bryan Recital Hall, BGSU's student jazz combos will be in concert at 8 p.m. April 2.

 

 

The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Robertson, comes to the University of Michigan at 8 p.m. April 2 in Hill Auditorium, 825 North University Ave., Ann Arbor. The program includes works by Richard Wagner, Jean Sibelius, and Bernd Zimmerman. Tickets range from $10 to $75.

 

Jazz pianist Chick Corea and guitarist John McLaughlin bring their Five Peace Band to Hill Auditorium for a concert at 8 p.m. April 4. Tickets are $10 to $48.

Juan Manuel Guerra-Hernandez and the Ohio Northern University Dance Company will present "Jarocho: Finding Its Roots - A Folkloric Journey" at 7 p.m. April 6 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts in Ada, Ohio. Guerra-Hernandez, Fulbright scholar-in-residence at ONU, created the program to introduce the public to traditional dances of Veracruz, Mexico. Tickets are $5. • Chris Buzzelli will direct the BGSU jazz guitar ensemble in a free concert at 8 p.m. April 7.

 

• The student composers' forum will present a program featuring works by graduate and undergraduate music composition majors at 8 p.m. April 8.

 

 

Music from Bowling Green at the Manor House continues at 7:30 p.m. April 7 in the Manor House of Wildwood Preserve Metropark, 5100 West Central Ave. Featured in the free concert will be the DMA Trio, composed of Jeffrey Heisler, saxophone; I-Chen Yeh, piano, and Isabelle Huang, marimba.
